Custom Honey Labels — Waterproof, Freezer Grade, Printed in Toronto

A honey label has one job that most labels don't: it has to survive the jar. Honey gets wiped, rinsed, put in the dishwasher and, at the end of the season, washed out and refilled. So we print honey labels on the same waterproof, freezer-grade BOPP film we use for every roll label, laminate them in gloss or matte, and supply them on a 3" core roll so a hundred jars go quickly. What the label is made of

BOPP is a plastic film that doesn't absorb water, printed in full colour and sealed under a laminate. Gloss makes the colours brighter and suits a bold logo; matte has no glare and suits a hand-drawn or craft look. Either way the label is washable by hand and in the dishwasher, and it holds in the freezer. The adhesive is strong: once the jar is labelled, it stays labelled.

Sizes, shapes and price

Honey labels come in every size — there's no standard, because there's no standard jar — but most of the ones we print are square. Presets at 2" × 2", 3" × 3" and 4" × 4", or enter your own size (anything up to 7.5" × 12"). Cut to your artwork's outline, rounded corners, oval/round, or rectangle/square. Price is by size and quantity and falls with volume: at 2" × 2", 50 labels are $60.00, 100 are $57.60, 250 are $83.16, 500 are $113.54 and 1,000 are $184.03 (about 18¢ each); at 3" × 3", 1,000 are $343.75; at 4" × 4", 1,000 are $500.00 — live prices as of September 19, 2026, before tax. There is no minimum: choose Custom Quantity and enter the number you need. Applying the label

Adhesive-wise it doesn't matter whether you label the jar before or after you fill it. We suggest after, so nothing drips onto the label while you're filling. Wipe the jar, peel from the roll, press from the centre out. The rolls fit a hand dispenser or a label applicator if you have one.

What has to be on a honey label in Canada

Most of our honey customers sell at markets, at the farm gate or to local stores, and the question we get more than any other is what the label must say. This is a summary of the federal and Ontario rules as published on the dates shown; the rules belong to the CFIA and your province, not to us, so check them before you send artwork. We print what you send.

Federal (CFIA, page updated June 22, 2026): the common name "Honey" must appear on the principal display panel, with words like liquid, creamed or pressed where needed to distinguish the style. Net quantity is declared by weight in metric units — g or kg. The name and principal place of business of the packer must appear somewhere other than only the bottom of the container. A grade name (Canada No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3) is required on honey that is exported, imported or traded between provinces, with the colour class (White, Golden, Amber or Dark) in close proximity to it. Canadian honey graded under the regulations is marked "Product of Canada" or "Canadian Honey"; imported honey is marked "Product of" the country. Ontario (page updated January 8, 2026): a retail honey label needs the name and full address of the packer, the word "honey/miel" (or "comb honey/miel en rayon"), the grade immediately followed by the colour class — for example "Ontario No. 1 White" — and the net weight in grams or kilograms; honey produced outside Ontario must name the country or province it came from. Containers of 150 g or less don't need the grade, colour class or net weight. Send finished artwork — PNG, PDF, AI, EPS, SVG or PSD; a 300 DPI PNG at the finished size works for most people, vector is best for text. Keep the weight, grade and address text at 7 pt or larger so it reads on a curved jar. You get a digital proof, usually within 24 hours, showing the cut line; approve it and production takes 1–3 business days. Shipping is then 3–5 business days to Ontario and Quebec, 5–7 to the rest of Canada, and 3–5 business days to the US.

Are the labels dishwasher safe? Yes — washable by hand and in the dishwasher, and freezer grade. The laminate keeps the print sealed.

What size should a honey label be? Whatever fits your jar's flat face; most honey labels we print are square, and 2", 3" and 4" cover most jars. If you're unsure, put the jar size in the order notes and we'll flag a fit problem on the proof.
